Check Your Bank of America Credit Card Application Status
Understanding Bank of America Credit Card Application Status Tracking
When you submit a credit card request to Bank of America, the company processes your information through several stages before making a decision. Each stage has specific timelines and reasons why your status might show different messages. Learning how this process works helps you understand what to expect and what each status notification means.

Bank of America typically provides status updates through multiple channels. You can check your status online through your existing Bank of America account, by calling their customer service phone number, or visiting a local branch. The timeline from submission to a final decision usually takes between a few days to a couple of weeks, depending on how complete your information is and whether the bank needs additional details from you.
The company uses automated systems to review basic information like your income, credit history, and employment details. If your information raises questions or seems incomplete, the application may move to a manual review by Bank of America staff members. This manual review can add several days to the overall timeline. Understanding these different paths through the process helps explain why some decisions come quickly while others take longer.
Your application status can show several different messages including "under review," "decision pending," "approved," "denied," or "additional information needed." Each of these messages tells you something specific about where your request stands in the decision process. Some statuses require you to take action, while others simply mean you should wait for the next update.
Practical takeaway: Write down the date you submitted your request and the reference number Bank of America provided. This information helps you track your request accurately and reference it if you need to contact customer service with questions about your status.
How to Check Your Status Online Through Bank of America's Website
Bank of America maintains a dedicated section on their website where customers can view the status of pending credit card requests. This online method is the fastest way to get current information about your status without waiting to speak with a representative. To use this feature, you need an existing Bank of America online banking account or you can create one if you don't have one yet.

Start by visiting bankofamerica.com and logging into your online banking account with your username and password. Once logged in, look for a section labeled "Credit Cards" or "Pending Applications" in your account menu. Different account types may have this section in slightly different locations, so check the main navigation menu if you don't immediately see it. Bank of America regularly updates the layout of their website, so the exact location may vary.
Within the credit cards section, you should see any pending requests listed with their current status. The status information typically includes the date you submitted your request, what stage it's currently in, and any actions you may need to take. If you have multiple pending requests, they will appear as separate entries so you can track each one individually.
The online status information updates regularly as your request moves through different review stages. Bank of America typically updates this information multiple times per day, so you may see changes if you check back several hours later. However, the most detailed information often comes in email notifications that Bank of America sends at key points in the process.
If you don't see your request listed online, it may still be in the very early stages of processing or the system may still be adding it to your account. Wait a few hours and check again, or contact Bank of America directly if you have questions about why your request isn't showing up yet. Sometimes requests submitted through partner websites or third-party platforms take slightly longer to appear in your Bank of America online account.
Practical takeaway: Bookmark the Bank of America login page so you can quickly check your status whenever you want. Checking every few days gives you a sense of how fast your request is moving through the system without checking so frequently that you add unnecessary stress to the waiting period.
Phone and Customer Service Methods for Status Inquiries
Bank of America's customer service team can provide status information over the phone and may offer more detailed explanations than what appears online. When you call, a representative can see the full details of your request and explain any codes or messages that seem unclear. This method works well if you prefer speaking with someone directly or if you have specific questions about why your request is taking a particular path.

The main Bank of America customer service number is 1-800-432-1000. This is a general line that routes calls to different departments. Tell the representative that you're calling about a pending credit card request status, and they will transfer you to the appropriate team. If you already have a Bank of America account, you can also use the phone number on the back of your existing debit card or statement, as these often route directly to customer service without the initial menu navigation.
When you call, have the following information ready: your Social Security number, date of birth, and the reference number or confirmation code from when you submitted your request. If you don't have the reference number, the representative can look up your pending requests using your name and Social Security number. The call typically takes 5 to 10 minutes depending on wait times and how much detail you need.
Bank of America's phone lines have extended hours, typically opening at 7 a.m. and closing at 10 p.m. on weekdays, with reduced hours on weekends. Call volume is generally lower on weekday mornings and mid-afternoons, so you may experience shorter wait times during these periods. If you have accessibility needs, Bank of America provides accommodations including language interpretation and services for people with hearing or speech disabilities.
Some Bank of America locations offer in-branch status inquiries as well. A banker at your local branch can look up your pending request and discuss it with you face-to-face. This option works particularly well if you have questions beyond just your status, such as understanding different card options or discussing your financial situation. To find a nearby branch, visit bankofamerica.com and use the branch locator tool.
Practical takeaway: Call during your lunch break or after work when you have time to take notes. Write down the representative's name, date and time of your call, and any information they provide about your status or timeline. This creates a record you can reference if your situation changes or if you need to follow up.
Understanding Different Status Messages and What They Mean
Bank of America uses specific status messages to communicate different stages of the decision process. "Under Review" is one of the most common statuses and simply means Bank of America's systems are actively evaluating your request. This status can last anywhere from a few hours to several days depending on the complexity of your financial situation and how quickly the automated systems can process all your information. During this time, no action is needed from you.

"Decision Pending" typically means your request has moved to the next stage but a final decision hasn't been made yet. This message often appears after the initial automated review and may indicate that a human reviewer is now looking at your request. This stage frequently takes several business days. Again, you should wait for a notification rather than taking action, unless Bank of America specifically asks for more information.
"Additional Information Needed" is a status that requires your attention. This message means Bank of America needs clarification or documentation about something in your request. The notification should specify what information is needed, such as recent pay stubs, tax returns, proof of address, or explanation of unusual items in your credit report. When you receive this message, respond as quickly as possible because the clock may reset once you provide the information, potentially extending the overall timeline.
An "Approved" status means Bank of America has decided to issue you the credit card. The notification typically includes information about your credit limit, annual percentage rate (APR), and any introductory offers. After approval, you'll usually receive your physical card within 5 to 7 business days, though some Bank of America cards offer instant digital access that you can start using immediately while waiting for the physical card to arrive.
A "Denied" status means Bank of America decided not to issue the card at this time. The notification should include a reason, often referencing items in your credit report or other factors. You have the right to request a free copy of your credit report from the agency Bank of America used, and you may be able to reapply in the future if your situation changes. Understanding the specific reason for denial helps you determine if reapplying makes sense.
Practical takeaway: Create a simple spreadsheet or document with columns for the date you checked, the status shown, and any notes. Over time, this helps you see the pattern of how your status is moving and gives you something concrete to reference if you contact Bank of America with questions.
