Free Guide to Canceling Tinder and Stopping Charges
Understanding Tinder's Subscription Model and Charges
Tinder offers both free and paid membership options. The free version lets you create a profile, browse other users, and send likes. However, Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, and Tinder Platinum are paid subscription tiers that add features like unlimited likes, the ability to see who liked you before matching, and priority in the app's matching system.

Charges appear on your bank or credit card statement under several possible names: "Match Group," "Tinder," or "IAP-Tinder" (IAP stands for In-App Purchase). The cost varies by location and subscription tier. As of 2024, Tinder Plus costs around $10.99 per month for those 30 and older, with discounts available for longer commitment periods like 6 or 12-month subscriptions. Tinder Gold and Platinum cost more, ranging from $15.99 to $29.99 per month depending on your age and region.
Charges typically renew automatically each billing cycle. If you signed up through Apple's App Store, Google Play, or directly through Tinder's website, each platform handles billing differently. This matters when you want to stop charges, as cancellation requires going through the same platform where you subscribed. Many users don't realize their subscription renews automatically and continue to be charged months or even years after they stop using the app.
Understanding where your subscription came from and what tier you're paying for is the first step toward stopping unwanted charges. Check your bank or card statements from the past few months to see when charges began and how frequently they occur. This information helps you locate the correct platform to cancel through.
Practical Takeaway: Review your last three bank statements and note the exact amount, date, and description of Tinder charges. This tells you which subscription tier you have and how often you're being billed.
How to Cancel Through Apple App Store
If you subscribed to Tinder through an iPhone or iPad and used Apple's payment system, you must cancel through Apple's settings rather than through the Tinder app itself. Apple manages all App Store subscriptions, and Tinder cannot cancel them on your behalf even if you request it through their customer service.

To cancel on iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and tap your name at the top. Select "Subscriptions" from the menu. You'll see a list of all active subscriptions. Find Tinder in this list and tap it. The screen will show your renewal date and subscription details. Tap "Cancel Subscription" and confirm your choice. Apple will show you the cancellation date, typically the next day.
After you cancel, you keep your Tinder access until the current billing period ends. For example, if your subscription renews on the 15th of each month and you cancel on the 5th, you retain your premium features until the 15th, when your subscription expires without charging you again. You can still use Tinder's free features after this date.
If you previously canceled but charges still appear, your subscription may have restarted. This can happen if you use the Tinder app's subscription offer within a month after canceling, as some promotions automatically re-enable subscriptions. Check your Settings > Subscriptions > Tinder again to confirm the current status. If no active subscription appears but charges continue, contact Apple Support directly at support.apple.com, as unauthorized charges suggest a technical issue or account compromise.
Apple allows cancellation at any point during your billing cycle, even immediately after purchasing. Some users purchase a subscription, realize it's not what they wanted, and cancel within minutes. Apple's policy generally allows this, though their terms state they're not required to refund subscription costs.
Practical Takeaway: On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > [Your Name] > Subscriptions > Tinder > Cancel Subscription. Confirm cancellation and note the date when your access will end.
How to Cancel Through Google Play Store
Android users who subscribed through Google Play need to cancel through Google's platform. Like Apple, Google manages the billing relationship and payment method, not Tinder. The process differs slightly from Apple but serves the same purpose.

Open Google Play on your Android phone or tablet and tap your profile icon in the top right corner. Select "Manage subscriptions" or "Subscriptions" depending on your device version. Scroll through the list to find Tinder. Tap on it to see subscription details, including your renewal date and the next charge amount. Tap "Cancel subscription" and follow the prompts to confirm. Google will ask if you want to provide feedback on why you're canceling, but this is optional.
Similar to Apple, your premium features remain active until your current billing period ends. If you canceled on the 8th but your next renewal isn't until the 20th, you'll maintain access through the 19th. Starting the 20th, you'll only see Tinder's free version unless you resubscribe.
Google Play offers a grace period where you can reactivate a canceled subscription within a short window, usually 30 days, without losing your original renewal date. This differs from canceling and then restarting, which would create a new billing cycle. If you change your mind quickly after canceling, check the Google Play Subscriptions page—you may see a reactivation option.
For Android users who cannot find the Subscriptions section in Google Play, alternative steps exist. Open a web browser and visit play.google.com/account, then look for "Payments and subscriptions" in the menu. This web version may appear different from the app version but allows the same cancellation process. Some older Android versions have the subscription settings in different locations, so trying both the app and web methods covers most cases.
Practical Takeaway: On your Android phone, open Google Play > Profile icon > Manage subscriptions > Tinder > Cancel subscription. Confirm and note when your access ends.
How to Cancel Direct Tinder Subscriptions
Some users subscribe directly through Tinder's website or within the app using a payment method stored in Tinder's system rather than through Apple or Google. This is most common on desktop browsers or when users chose a payment option that bypassed the app store. Canceling direct subscriptions requires logging into your Tinder account.

On a desktop computer, visit tinder.com and log into your account. Click on your profile icon, usually in the top right or accessible through a menu. Look for settings, account, or subscription options. You should see a section labeled "Subscription," "Manage subscription," or "Billing." This displays your current subscription tier, renewal date, and payment method. Select an option to cancel or downgrade your subscription. Tinder will typically show you the cancellation date and confirm that you'll lose premium features.
If accessing through the Tinder mobile app, the process can be less straightforward because in-app buttons sometimes redirect to the app store instead of Tinder's direct billing. If you see subscription settings in the app that don't direct you to Apple or Google, tap to see your options. Some regions or account types allow direct cancellation through the app's settings menu. If the option isn't clearly available in the app, use the web browser method instead.
For users with older accounts, especially those created before Tinder moved most billing to app stores, direct subscriptions may still be active. Check your payment method on file—if it shows a credit card linked directly to Tinder rather than Apple Pay or Google Pay, you have a direct subscription. The cancellation process is the same: log in, find subscription settings, and select cancel.
Direct Tinder subscriptions sometimes offer different pricing or promotional rates than app store versions. For example, Tinder may run web-only discounts. This means your renewal date, price, and cancellation method differ from someone who subscribed through an app store. Contacting Tinder's support team through their help section can clarify whether your subscription is direct-billed or app-store managed if you're unsure.
Practical Takeaway: Log into tinder.com on a web browser, navigate to your account settings, find the subscription section, and select the cancellation option. Save the confirmation email or screenshot.
Verifying Cancellation and Preventing Future Charges
