The company recognizes that different customers have different preferences for communication, so they offer several methods to reach their representatives. Phone Contact Methods and What to Expect

Calling Con Edison remains one of the most direct ways to reach a customer service representative. The main customer service phone number for Con Edison is 1-800-752-6633. This number works for customers in New York with questions about their electric or gas service. When you call this number, you reach the main customer service line where representatives can address billing questions, account issues, service requests, and general inquiries about Con Edison's services.

Con Edison's phone lines operate during specific business hours. Generally, customer service representatives are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time. On Saturday, the phone lines typically open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eastern Time. The company does not staff phone lines on Sundays or major holidays. However, Con Edison maintains an automated phone system 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for reporting outages, making emergency requests, or checking account information through their automated voice system.

When you call Con Edison, have your account number ready. This number appears on your monthly bill and helps representatives locate your account quickly. Your account number typically starts with specific digits that identify your service area. If you don't have your account number, Con Edison can still help you by using your service address, but having the number available speeds up the process. Be prepared to provide your name and address to verify your account ownership.

Con Edison also operates a separate line for reporting gas leaks or other safety emergencies. If you smell gas or suspect a safety issue, call 1-800-752-6633 and press the appropriate menu option, or call 911 in life-threatening situations. This ensures that emergency responders and Con Edison safety teams can reach your location quickly.

Practical Takeaway: Keep your Con Edison account number handy before calling. Knowing the company's business hours helps you reach a representative when you need one, and having your account information ready makes the call more efficient.

Online Account Management and Digital Contact Options

Con Edison provides an online portal where customers can manage many account tasks without making a phone call. You can access the Con Edison website at www.coned.com. Once on the website, you can create an account or log in with existing credentials. The online portal allows you to view your current and past bills, check your account balance, report outages, and explore information about Con Edison's programs and services.

To create an online account, you'll need your Con Edison account number, which appears on your bill, along with your ZIP code. After creating login credentials, you can access your account from any device with internet access. Many customers find this convenient because they can check their account status at any time, day or night. The online portal displays your monthly usage patterns, allowing you to see how your electricity and gas consumption varies by month. This information can help you understand your bills better and identify ways to manage your energy use.

Con Edison offers online chat support through their website during business hours. You can initiate a chat conversation with a representative by visiting the contact us section on www.coned.com. The chat feature works similarly to phone support but allows you to communicate through typed messages. This option works well if you prefer written communication or if you're in an environment where making a phone call isn't practical. Chat representatives can answer questions about billing, accounts, and services, though some complex issues may require a phone call or in-person visit.

The Con Edison website also contains extensive information about rates, billing practices, and available programs. You can read about budget billing options, which allow you to pay a consistent amount each month rather than dealing with seasonal fluctuations in your bills. The website includes calculators that help you estimate your energy costs and understand how different factors affect your monthly expenses. For customers interested in energy efficiency, the website provides information about weatherization programs and rebates for energy-efficient appliances.

Practical Takeaway: Setting up an online account gives you 24/7 access to your account information and the ability to handle routine tasks without waiting for business hours or speaking with a representative.

In-Person Service Centers and Walk-In Locations

Con Edison maintains physical customer service centers in New York where you can visit in person to handle account matters. These centers allow you to speak with representatives face-to-face about your account, pay bills, set up new service, or address billing disputes. The main customer service center in Manhattan is located at 4 Irving Place, New York, NY 10003. This location serves as a primary hub for Con Edison customer inquiries in the Manhattan area.

Additional service centers operate in other parts of Con Edison's service territory, including locations in the Bronx, Queens, and other neighborhoods throughout the service area. You can find the addresses and hours of specific service centers on the Con Edison website or by calling 1-800-752-6633. Most service centers operate during regular business hours, typically Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., though hours may vary by location. Some centers may have limited Saturday hours.

Walking into a service center works well for customers who prefer in-person interaction or who need to handle complex account matters that benefit from direct conversation. You may experience wait times, particularly during peak hours in late afternoon or on days when bills are due. To minimize wait time, consider visiting earlier in the day or during mid-week. You can also call ahead to ask about current wait times at your nearest service center.

In-person visits allow you to bring supporting documentation if you're disputing a charge or addressing a billing issue. You can show representatives proof of payment, photographs of meter readings, or other materials related to your concern. This direct approach sometimes makes it easier to resolve complex situations than handling them over the phone. Service center representatives can also provide information about Con Edison programs, explain billing details in detail, and help you understand your options for addressing account issues.

Practical Takeaway: Visit a Con Edison service center when you need to handle complex matters, bring supporting documentation for disputes, or prefer face-to-face interaction with representatives.

Special Departments and Directed Contact Numbers

Con Edison operates several specialized departments beyond their main customer service line. If you're experiencing a power outage, you can report it through the main customer service line or through the automated outage reporting system available 24 hours a day. The outage information system allows you to check if Con Edison has recorded an outage in your area and provides estimates for when service might be restored. This system helps you understand whether a problem affects multiple customers or just your home.
