How to Turn Off Pandora on Your Devices Guide
Understanding Pandora and Why You Might Want to Turn It Off
Pandora is a music streaming service that plays songs based on your preferences and listening history. The platform works by creating personalized radio stations where you can listen to music, podcasts, and other audio content. Many people use Pandora on their smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart speakers throughout their daily lives. Understanding what Pandora does and how it operates on your devices can help you make informed decisions about when and how to stop using it.

People turn off Pandora for various reasons. Some users want to cancel their subscription to save money on monthly fees. Others may prefer different music streaming services or want to reduce the number of apps running on their devices. Some individuals simply take breaks from music streaming during certain periods. Additionally, some people turn off Pandora temporarily to troubleshoot technical problems, improve battery life on their phones, or reduce data usage when they have limited internet connections.
It's important to understand that turning off Pandora can mean different things depending on your situation. You might want to log out of your account, pause playback temporarily, delete the app from a specific device, or completely cancel your Pandora subscription. Each action has different steps and different effects on your account. Before taking any action, consider what outcome you actually want and whether that outcome requires you to cancel your account or simply manage how you use the service on individual devices.
Practical Takeaway: Before proceeding with any changes, decide whether you want to temporarily stop using Pandora on one device, stop using it across all devices but keep your account, or permanently cancel your subscription entirely. This will guide which steps you should follow.
Pausing and Stopping Playback on Your Devices
The simplest way to turn off Pandora is to pause the music that's currently playing. This action stops the audio immediately but keeps your account active and maintains your preferences. Pausing Pandora is different from logging out or canceling your subscription—the app remains on your device, your account information stays the same, and you can resume listening whenever you want.

On smartphones and tablets using the Pandora app, pausing is straightforward. When music is playing, open the Pandora app and look for the pause button, which typically appears as two vertical lines. Tap this button once, and the music stops immediately. The pause button will change to a play button, which you can tap later to resume your music. This method works the same way on both Apple iOS devices and Android devices. You can also use voice commands on some phones by saying "pause Pandora" if you have voice assistant features enabled.
On computer web browsers, pausing Pandora works similarly. Visit pandora.com, sign into your account if needed, and look for the pause button on the player interface. This button is typically located near the center of the music player. Clicking it will stop playback immediately. Many computer users also use keyboard shortcuts—pressing the spacebar while focused on the Pandora player often pauses and resumes playback.
For smart speakers and other devices like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomePod, you can pause Pandora by saying voice commands such as "pause," "stop the music," or "turn off Pandora." You can also press physical buttons on the device itself, usually located on the top of the speaker, which pause and resume playback.
Practical Takeaway: If you only want to stop music temporarily and plan to listen again, simply use the pause button in the app or on your device. This takes seconds and requires no account changes.
Logging Out of Pandora on Individual Devices
Logging out of your Pandora account on a specific device is different from pausing playback. When you log out, the app remains on your device, but your personal account information is removed. This action is useful when you share a device with others and want to prevent them from accessing your account and listening history. Logging out also stops any active playback immediately.

To log out of Pandora on a smartphone or tablet, open the Pandora app and look for the Settings menu. This is typically represented by a gear icon or three horizontal lines (hamburger menu). Once in Settings, scroll down to find an option that says "Log Out," "Sign Out," or "Account." Tap this option, and you will be asked to confirm that you want to log out. After confirmation, your account will be removed from that device, and the app will return to the login screen. The app itself remains on your phone or tablet, but it no longer has access to your personal information.
On a computer using a web browser, logging out is equally simple. While on pandora.com, look for your account name or profile icon, usually located in the upper right corner of the screen. Click this icon to reveal a dropdown menu with various options. Select "Log Out" or "Sign Out" from this menu. Pandora will sign you out of your account, and the browser will no longer have access to your personal information. You can still visit pandora.com, but you will need to log in again with your username and password to listen to music.
For smart speakers, the process differs slightly because these devices typically don't have traditional login screens. You usually need to manage smart speaker accounts through the companion app on your phone or through the device's settings menu. In the Pandora app for smart speakers, go to Settings, find the connected devices section, and select the smart speaker you want to disconnect. Choose the option to remove or disconnect that device from your Pandora account. This will prevent the speaker from accessing your Pandora account, though the device itself will remain functional for other purposes.
Practical Takeaway: Logging out on specific devices is the right choice when you share a device with others or when you want to prevent unauthorized access to your account while keeping your subscription active on your other devices.
Deleting the Pandora App from Your Devices
Removing the Pandora app from your phone, tablet, or computer completely deletes the application but does not cancel your subscription. This is useful if you want to free up storage space on your device or simply stop using the app without losing your account. You can reinstall the app later and log back in if you change your mind. Deleting an app is different from canceling your subscription—your account remains active, and you will still be charged for any paid subscription if you have one.

On an iPhone or iPad, deleting an app requires a few simple steps. Find the Pandora app on your home screen by scrolling through your apps or using the search function. Press and hold the Pandora app icon until a menu appears with several options. Select "Remove App" and then choose "Delete App" from the confirmation screen. When prompted, confirm that you want to delete the app. The app will be removed from your device, and the storage space it used will be freed up. Your account and subscription information remains active and stored with Pandora's servers, not on your device.
On Android phones and tablets, the process is similar but with slight differences. Open your Settings app and navigate to "Apps" or "Applications" (the exact name varies by manufacturer). Find Pandora in the list of installed apps and tap it. Look for a button or option that says "Uninstall" or has a trash can icon. Tap this option and confirm when asked if you want to remove the app. Like with iPhones, deleting the app from an Android device does not cancel your subscription or delete your account—it only removes the app from your device.
On computers using Windows, right-click the Pandora app in your Start menu or find it in your installed programs list (usually accessible through Settings > Apps > Apps & Features). Select "Uninstall" and follow the prompts to remove the application. On a Mac, you can delete Pandora by opening Finder, finding the Applications folder, locating Pandora, and dragging it to the Trash. For web browser access, you don't need to delete anything—simply don't visit pandora.com, or log out the next time you visit if you've been logged in.
Practical Takeaway: Delete the app from individual devices when you want more storage space or want to stop using Pandora on certain devices, but remember that this doesn't cancel your subscription if you have one.
